Ghanaian rapper Medikal won big at the just-ended Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) 2019.
The AMG Business act won two (2), out of his four (4) nominations. He won in the ‘Hiplife/Hip-hop Artiste of the Year’, and ‘Rapper of the Year’ categories; the latter for the remix version to his song ‘How Much’.
In the ‘Hiplife/Hip-hop Artiste of the Year’ category, he faced stiff competition from most-decorated Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie, R2bees, and Kwesi Arthur. Others were Patapaa, and La Meme Gang.
The likes of Teephlow, Obibini, Sarkodie, and M.anifest also gave him a tough run in the ‘Rapper of the Year’ category.
This success follows a huge disappointment at the VGMA 2017 event which saw him win none, despite earning seven (7) nominations.
It also balls down to the hard work and perseverance of his team which is made up of the CEO Criss Waddle, General Manager Chribs Drake (@chribsdrake), Road Manager Flow Delly (@flowdelly491) and corporate manager Montana (@amg_montana491). It also includes his personal assistant Quame Zane, official disc jockey DJ Halm, artiste Attitude, as well as Unkle Beat who is his official music producer.
Grateful Medikal has since thanked everyone for supporting his music.
“2 years ago I was nominated in 7 categories but went home with Nill (7-0)! I never gave up! I worked harder ! Never give up no matter the situation, stay strong and keep pushing. Glory be to God ! Big thanks to everyone supporting my music, thanks for believing in me.Bigup all my fans who voted ! This is for y’all, you made this happen.Massive respect and thanks to Vodaphone Ghana Music Awards & The board of Chatter house for honoring me with two awards last night ! 🏆🏆,” the ‘Father’ rapper said in a post after the awards.
He is set to release his next EP titled ‘The Plug’.
Real name Samuel Frimpong, Medikal boasts of an album titled ‘Disturbation’ which was released in 2017.
In 2016, he won the ‘Best Discovery Video’ at the MTN 4Syte TV Music Video Awards for the video to his song ‘Anthem’. He also won the ‘Hiplife/Hip-hop Act of the Year’ at the recently-held 3Music Awards 2019.
This brings to four (4), the number of competitive awards won by the rapper.
