First-ever Ghana Celebrity Impact Awards Launched to Recognise Selfless Impact in Society

The maiden edition of Ghana Celebrity Impact Awards (GCIA) has been introduced at a press event in Accra, where the schedule, entries, and key details were shared.

The award scheme aims at recognising and honouring celebrities and brands who use their influence to make impact on societal issues, inspire a culture of responsibility and community development.

Speaking at the press launch, Mr Ken Fiati who is the Director of Communications and Research for the GCIA noted the award scheme will celebrate the selfless act of improving the lives of others.

“Through this event, we will celebrate the power of philanthropy — we will celebrate those who have chosen to give back to their community, who have invested their time, resources, and energy into causes that matter. Whether it’s through education, healthcare, social justice or empowering marginalised groups” he stated.

“The celebrities we will honour at this event have demonstrated that true greatness is measured not by what you achieve for yourself but for what you do for others. The Ghana Celebrity Impact Awards will serve as a reminder that even in the phase of adversity, there are those who are committed to making a positive difference, those who are willing to use their influence to create a better world for all of us,” he reiterated.

The GCIA nominations are open and will close on Saturday, 5th October, 2024.

The Board Director Mr. Eldridge Ofori mentioned that “one can get the nomination form on www.ghanacelebrityimpactawards; when you get on the site, you can download the form and fill it. After downloading it, you fill it out then you put in all your supporting documents, then you can upload it on the same website or you can send it to nominations@ghanacelebrityimpactawards.com.”

The GCIA voting is powered by Voteezy and its Founder who is also part of the GCIA team Dr Philip Gyapong voting will be made available via USSD code *920*111#, and on Voteezy mobile app (Android & iOS), with one standard vote costing GHs1.

He added that “every nominee is going to be assigned with a nominee code, according to the category, once entered the nominee’s name will be displayed on the platform.”

It is open to 40% public voting and 60% Academy voting.

The award scheme composes of the 20 Celebrity/Individual categories (including Celebrity Influencer and Celebrity Filmmaker) as well as the 19 companies, brands or organisations categories (including Impact in Youth Employment and Impact in Health and Wellness).

The screening and selection process begins on 10th October, 2024 through to 12th February, 2025 which will be done by a panel of esteemed judges.

The main award ceremony which is scheduled for 24th May 2025, will be preceded by the Women Speaker Conference on Empowerment and Gender Equality on Saturday, 26th April, 2025.
