Product Placement in ‘Gringo’ Video
Product placement is an effective marketing technique/strategy in which references are made to specific brands or products. This is usually incorporated into audio-visual works of film, TV and sometimes just audio with a specific intent to promote the particular product.
Shatta Wale‘s recently released and much talked-about visuals to his song ‘Gringo’ — an introductory piece to his upcoming ‘Reign’ album is a perfect example of product placement and it is worth noting.
The Zylofon Music act who has diligently promoted the Zylofon Media brand, its products/services and other related brands since his lip-smacking deal in January this year, replicated it in the aforementioned video.
Shot in the province of Blanco, Texas, USA, at the Buggy Barn Museum in a 1880s setting, with over 20 actors, the subject of product placement comes to play — as regard, the display of Zylofon Cash and gold chip from Menzgold.
Zylofon Cash in ‘Gringo’ Video
A framed Zylofon Cash design is seen hanging at the right side corner of the bar. While Shatta Wale enters the bar with Jasmine, a role played by Jade Flury, the Zylofon Cash signage is zoomed in as the camera captures the portrait of the two personages.
Gold Chip from Menzgold in ‘Gringo’ Video
El Shatta and Jasmine finally enters the bar, they head straight to the bartender to buy a drink. As a legal tender, he flips a Menzgold branded gold chip/coin to the bartender to pay for the drink. After receiving the gold chip, the bartender opens his palm wide, while the camera is again zoomed in to capture the coin.
Premiered to millions of audience on Zylofon TV and MTV Base Africa across Africa, a little over a week ago, and with massive airplay on other TV networks, the ‘Gringo’ video is just some few views away from hitting 1 million views on YouTube.
By mean of this, it is worth noting how the Zylofon Cash and Menzgold chip products have snowballed in terms of the improved brand awareness, brand affiliation, instant credibility, among others.
Shatta Wale‘s ‘Gringo’ music video was directed by celebrated Nigerian video director Sesan.
