First Ghanaian Drone Company receives Commercial Certificate to Operate

STK Aeroshutter, a Ghanaian drone operating company, has received a commercial Remotely Piloted Aircraft System Operating Certificate (ROC) in Ghana, making it the first Ghanaian company to do so.

With the support and guidance from the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority, Aeroshutter initiated the process of applying for ROC in 2018, which also involved the licensing of its local operations staff who have now become the first Ghanaian commercial drone pilots in the country.

Aeroshutter is a drone service company that deals in agriculture, construction, mining, oil and gas, and also provides daily survey volumetric mapping services.

Director, Safety and Regulations at GCAA, Daniel Acquah, in his brief remarks during a brief ceremony to present the certificate to the company, urged STK to work hard to ensure high safety standards in their operations.

He said GCAA will be working with National Security to develop privacy and security policies and directives on the use of drones.

Managing Director of STK Aeroshutter, Mr Derrick Annan said his outfit would ensure the highest form of safety in their operations.

He noted that the regulations for recreational operators is to fly below 400 feet and not fly within public areas where people gathered, as well as fly close to buildings that are not within their control, and added that his company is ready to adhere to these few directives.

He was also optimistic that with the acquisition of certification, the prospects are higher for his company.
