Shatta Wale to Open 3Music Awards 2019
The 3Music Awards 2019 event will open with a performance by Shatta Wale, organisers have announced.
Analysing this decision, as events and music business writer, I deem it a worthy commitment.
Of course, this is not the first time a major Ghanaian music act has opened a show of such magnitude, and it definitely won’t be the last.
Stonebwoy has done this before with Ghana Meets Naija and the result was a positive one.
Shatta Wale, has in recent past registered his displeasure about event organisers employing him to end shows. According to him, his fans sometimes get exhausted, and some even leave before he mounts stage.
THE STATUS QUO & DEFYING IT
Ghanaians, like many event guests across the continent attend events very late (at worse 2 hours after start of show).
This is due to the fact that, over the years, event organisers have had ‘not so big’ acts opening shows. In fact, most people know this routine and as a result, are never in a hurry to watch such acts.
This has not been good for Ghanaian arts and entertainment industry.
However, the 3Music Awards team’s decision to make Shatta Wale open the show is in the right direction and the points below will justify it:
WHY SHATTA WALE-3MUSIC AWARDS DECISION IS GOOD!
Making Shatta Wale open the 3Music Awards will:
- Do away with late attendance to shows. As I’ve noted above, Ghanaians are mainly late attendants to events. Shatta Wale is a big act and as a result almost everybody would love to have a glimpse of his performance.
- Help young acts have a large number of audience. When Shatta Wale draws guests to the auditorium early, of course, they will stay throughout the show. And as a result, they will be able to sell their craft to a larger audience.
The 3Music Awards comes off this weekend at the Fantasy Dome inside the Trade Fair Centre, La-Accra.
The ceremony will also be graced by some of the country’s top music acts.
