Michael Essien named in Chelsea’s ‘Team of the Decade’

Ghanaian footballer Michael Essien has been named in Chelsea FC’s ‘Team of the Decade’.

The team is made up of eleven (11) current and former players of the London-based football club.

The midfielder was named in the team alongside Cech, Ivanovic, Cahill, Terry, Cole, and Kante. Others are Lampard, Willian, Drogba, and Hazard.

The team was voted for, by fans of the club on its official app ‘The 5th Stand’.

Essien, 37, who currently plays for Azerbaijan Premier League side Sabail who is delighted about the selection has expressed his gratitude to fans for such an honour.

He tweeted: “Its an honour to have been selected as part of the
@ChelseaFC team of the decade. Thank you to all the fans who voted for me. Delighted to be part of @ChelseaFc Family for life💙⚽️”

With a glittering career in England that lasted for nine (9) years, Essien was signed by Chelsea from Lyon on August 25, 2005 for £24.4 million fee.

At Chelsea, he won 2 Premier League titles, 4 FA Cups, as well as the FA Community Shield in 2009, and UEFA Champions League during the 2011/12 season.
