DStv Adds Telemundo Channel; Launches on August 12

DStv logoMultiChoice, operators of DStv will on Monday, August 12 launch South America’s TV channel, Telemundo on its bouquet following a carriage agreement between the former and Universal Networks International (UNI).

The telenovela channel which broadcasts in the Spanish language will however be dubbed into English and Portuguese for majority of the audience on the continent.

The channel which broadcasts only in 21 countries in Latin America will air for the first time in the 48 countries on the African continent with DStv accessibility.

It will be available on DStv Premium, DStv Compact, DStv Access and DStv Family bouquets.

CEO of MultiChoice South Africa, Collins Khumalo admitted his outfit’s joy at adding this new channel to its bouquet.

“Our customers are already enjoying the entertainment on offer on the 5 Universal Networks International channels available on DStv. Telemundo is a great addition which further strengthens our partnership with Universal Networks International,” he said.

The president of international television distribution and Universal Networks International, Belinda Menendez acknowledged the attraction of more viewers for the channel.

“We are constantly being approached by our platform partners to help them to reach a broader and more diverse demographic – and we are confident that the unique content on Telemundo will attract new viewers in a multi-channel environment,” she said.

Marcos Santana, The president of Telemundo International also siad “With the launch of Telemundo Africa, the region sees the birth of the first pay TV Latin American channel in the English language.”

Telemundo becomes the fifth channel from the Universal Networks International group to launch in Africa after Universal Channel, E! Entertainment Television, The Style Network and movie channel Studio Universal. NBC Universal also operates CNBC channels across the continent.
