The film which was nominated in the ‘Best African Film’ category had casts Ama K. Abebrese and John Dumelo been nominated for the ‘Best African Actress’ and ‘Best African Actor in a Supporting Role’ respectively. Among those nominated were the director of the movie Leila Djansi (‘Best African Director and ‘Best African Producer’) and editor Avril Beukes (‘Best African Editor).
Also up for honours is celebrated movie producer cum director Shirley Frimpong-Manso in the ‘Most Oustanding African Filmmaker’ and ‘Best Screenplay in an African Film (Perfect Picture)’ categories. American-based Ghanaian filmmaker Akosua Adoma Owusu has also been nominated for the ‘Best African Filmmaker in Diaspora’ category.
The AFDA is a film honour that celebrate individuals for their immense contribution to African film development.
The year’s event which will be held in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania on Saturday, June 29 will be preceded with a Symposium on African Cinema and an African Cultural Night on Friday, June 28.
The 31 awards category is also calling on film students that are interested in submitting their short film for the short film category which closes entry on Saturday, June 1.
