The renowned writer, 82, whose mortal remains arrived in Nigeria on Wednesday died at a medical centre in Boston, Massachussetts, United States on Thursday, March 21, 2013 following a brief illness.
Among the people bereaving the family at the burial service today include several Head of States, academics, diplomats, ministers like the President of the Republic of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama and Professor Uzodinma Nwala of the University of Nigeria.
Before his eventual death, he lived in the United States for over two decades following a car crash.
His first novel in 1958 “Things Fall Apart” sold over 10 million copies and influenced most writers around the globe.
He went ahead to write other short stories, poetry, children’s book, essays, political commentaries among others.
